Ben Hansen Architect

471 Washington Street is located at the northern border of Tribeca, adjacent to the Hudson River.  Ben Hansen Architect was asked to design a residential building with eleven apartments and a three story penthouse.  The irregular geometries of the site became the motivation for the building’s form.  In order to resolve the acute angles of the lot lines, we developed a pair of interlocked ‘C’s.  The ‘C’s are parallel to their respective lot lines.  The deep profiled aluminum and glass façade mediates between the ‘C’s.  The ‘C’s also function as cast concrete transfer slabs.
